Net Worth: July 2012

Finally we have some positive news to report. The last few months of Net Worth Updates have been less than exciting to write. Buying a car, coupled with some severe market hemorrhaging, made for some not-so-great numbers. Can’t think of a better way to kick off summer than with an increasing net worth!

A$$ets:

Checking Account: $4,825; (change not shown since money is constantly in and out of this account). We’ve been traveling like crazy. San Diego three weeks ago. Vegas two weeks ago. And Canada this last weekend. Fortunately, the busy season is over and our schedule is a lot more clear. It’s about time I get to transferring some of this in to savings.

Savings Accounts: $67,805; -$23. A negative number here on the surface doesn’t look good, but as I mentioned above, I simply haven’t gotten around to moving my money around. I’ll be moving $3,000 over this way by the end of the week. Fear not friends, I still do my best to be a diligent saver 🙂

Roth IRA: $27,794; +$1,641. While this gain doesn’t totally replace the $2,100 loss we suffered last month in this account, it sure as heck does ease the pain. Investing can be super emotional if you let it be, good thing I care more about 30 years from now than 30 days 🙂

TSP (401K): $34,335; +$2,632. About $700 of this gain was from contributions, the remaining gains were the result of positive market forces. How sweet would it be if this happened every month. Haha, a boy can dream right?

Payments owed:

Credit Card: $2,292 (change not reflected since balance is paid off each month). Our food, shopping, and entertainment related expenses have been higher than normal as a result of all the travel and fun we’ve been having. While I prefer our CC bill to be closer to $1,500 each month, I’ve definitely enjoyed myself this last month. No complaints from me.

If there’s one thing this update has reminded me, it’s just how much I love summer. Not only because our financial situation is doing alright, but Girl Ninja doesn’t have to work, the rain finally slows down in Seattle, and people are just generally happier. It’s a beautiful thing.  It doesn’t hurt that our net worth is up to $132,492, which is an increase of $4,673 from the previous month. Let’s hope the rest of summer goes this well 🙂

Happy Belated Birthday USA ,

Ninja

  1. Your savings account is morbidly obese, haha! Awesome, dude! Congrats on things picking up, that’s always a great feeling. With such a great savings account and all that money in retirement, I think you’re sittin’ pretty. Well, prettier than most Americans. True story.

  2. Just checked my networth. Actually positive considering how much spending we have done. Need to figure out a way to stop spending so much. There is a great deal of truth to the saying the more you have the more you spend…

  3. I’ve been avoiding my Mint account for the last month because I’ve been dealing with a lot of cash for various reasons and it’s been a real pain to keep track of and I’ve been too busy to enter the expenses or payments. Thanks for the inspiration to go check them!
